It's been awhile since I've done a Saturday Snapshot post. But as the winter stretches on and on, I'm beginning to dream of summer and travelling. I put the pictures from our trip in 2011 as a slideshow on the background of my laptop. I thought I'd share three of my favorites from one of my favorite cities in the whole world - Prague! This is actually the view from our hotel room. We were right up by the castle. I don't know how we got lucky enough to get this view, but I could have stared out the window for hours. This is the effect of the stained glass in St. Vitus' Cathedral. I've never seen any other stained glass windows as vibrantly colored as these. They are absolutely beautiful! This is a picture of the city, castle, and cathedral taken from Vysehrad, a fort down the river from the city center. Prague is one of those cities you could wander around in forever. I hope I'm blessed enough to be able to go back someday! Saturday Snapshot is hosted by West Metro Mommy.

A few weeks ago, I took my class on a field trip to see our Capitol building in Lansing. This is the fourth time I've taken this field trip, and every year I learn something new. I don't remember ever hearing in past years that the stars at the top of the dome are made with gold and platinum paint in order to make them more visible from the ground level. It's an absolutely beautiful building. If you're ever in Michigan, I highly recommend taking a tour! Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.
This past weekend I had the privilege of participating in the 50th anniversary of my alma mater - Concordia University in Ann Arbor. I graduated in 2006, and it was wonderful to be "home", back on campus with the beautiful fall colors. The day was rather wet and misty, but that didn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm. The Chapel was full for the worship service. I sang with the choir, which was made up of 150-ish current students and alumni. The sound of the hymns echoing throughout the Chapel was a hint of heaven. I didn't have a chance to take any pictures, but I was able to get ahold of some taken by one of my college friends who is an amazing photographer! Saturday Snapshot is hosted by West Metro Mommy.
This is something I love about Britain. When I went to London for the first time in 2005, I was just astounded that they advertised books in this way - on the sides of buses and as posters in Tube stations. It's not something I've ever seen in America (although that doesn't mean it doesn't happen). When we visited London this summer, I made sure to take pictures of some of these book posters. What a great way to get the word out there about a new book! Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Metro West Mommy.
These were one of my favorite discoveries on our trip to Paris this summer. Walking along the river one day, we saw all of these green boxes. We made a few guesses, but couldn't figure out what they were. . . . . . until the next day, when we saw them opened up. They're used book stands! Businessmen on their way home from work, mothers doing the shopping for the day - everyone stopped to peruse the selection of books. And I would have been right there with them, if only the books weren't all in French. Instead, I had to settle for taking pictures and enjoying the aesthetic appeal. On our trip to London this summer, we visited King's Cross train station, which just happens to have a sign for Platform 9 3/4. It's on a random wall out in the station, not between Platforms 9 and 10. When I visited London eight years ago, it was on a wall by the train tracks, and there was no one around. Now, there is a line to have your picture taken by a professional photographer, who poses you with a scarf (you get to pick your house) running with the trolley halfway through the wall. We didn't wait in line for the official (and I'm sure, expensive) picture. We just snatched our own when we could. Saturday Snapshot is hosted by West Metro Mommy.
We just got back from our vacation to London and Paris a week ago. I think this is my favorite picture from our whole trip (of course, I could say that for about ten different pictures - at least). This is a view of the Louvre, through a giant clock in the Musée d'Orsay. Saturday Snapshot is hosted by West Metro Mommy.

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
